Frequently asked questions.

  • A lot of people think that since breastfeeding is so natural that its easy to do. Breastfeeding, while considered "natural", does not always come naturally. Lactation happens after you have your baby but breastfeeding is learned.

Breastfeeding is the most natural thing that usually does not come naturally to most women.

The more information and resources women and their families have, the more successful your breastfeeding experience can be.

As The Boobie Mama - I will provide and support breastfeeding support through all the ups and especially the downs of your journey. I provide 1-to-1 lactation services in the privacy and comfort of your home.

I see moms of 3 or 4 and I see brand new mamas fresh out of the hospital. There is something you can gain from working with a lactation consultant during your entire breastfeeding journey. For example: sleeping through the night or starting solids…both things can affect breastmilk supply! So let me help!

  • I am working on being an in-network provider to make filing a claim and obtaining my services much easier for you. But for now, I am a private, out-of-network IBCLC that can provide you the documentation for reimbursement. Since I have been working with clients and talking to other IBCLCs, I have done some leg work for you & here is what I have found:

    • Masshealth and United do not reimburse for my services (or any private IBCLC) because they only reimburse for their own in-network providers.

    • Aetna and Cigna - you have to call to get some specifics…but here is what I know. Depending on your policy you can get 80-100% reimbursement IF you have met your deductible for the year. If you have not met your deductible, you can see one of their in-network providers OR pay for my services out of pocket.

    • Blue Cross, Allways and Harvard Pilgrim, some Tufts plans will reimburses100% and usually my clients do not have much trouble getting reimbursed.

I am unable to call your insurance company for you on your behalf and if your claim gets denied I am not responsible. Please refer to my practice payment and client financial responsibility form uploaded on your patient portal.

  • Great question. So I do not bill insurance companies directly. I am not an in-network provider for any insurance company at this time. However, through the Affordable Care Act - most insurance companies are required to reimburse for lactation services.

What does this mean for you? How does this work?

You book an appointment with me, I send you an invoice, once paid and services are rendered I complete a superbill that is sent to you via the client portal…you submit that receipt along with my superbill to your insurance company for reimbursement.

(I send all invoices and accept all payment through my client portal on Simple Practice)

  • Fill out the paperwork, sign the consents and review practice policies please! It is best if this information is filled out prior to our appointment.

Try and make sure your baby is hungry around the time of our appointment (or within the hour of our appointment time).

Gather your supplies! Pumps, pillows, flanges, nipple butters, bottles, nipples, pacifiers, breast shells ect. I am happy to review the best ways to utilize what you have.

If you need flanges or other common supplies, I carry a small stock with me to our visit.

Baby will be weighed at the beginning of our consult and after a breastfeed if clinical indicated to determine milk intake and ability to transfer milk from the breast.

  • YES! I am very familiar with tongue ties and how to assess oral motor function and their impacts on breastfeeding. Since being in private practice, I have created a private network of providers that I trust and refer my clients to.

I am a member of the International Affiliation of Tongue Tie Professionals to keep up to date on all the research in the field. I have also completed the GOLD Learning Tongue-Tie Online Symposium.

  • In some of my appointments there are add-on items that I love, have used and recommend to a lot of my clients. I keep a small stock of these items for you to purchase, so you don’t have to wait for the amazon truck to deliver the goods.

In order for it to be streamlined and organized for the both of us, I officially have an amazon storefront. These are Amazon affiliate links. The Boobie Mama earns a small commission when you purchase through these links with no cost to you. I appreciate your support!!!

The link to my amazon storefront is here!

  • Your initial consult comes with 2 weeks of text support following our appointment. There are some situations where I need updates to pivot the plan beyond our appointment…sort of like an extension of our appointment. This will be a mutual understanding during our appointment. Anything outside the two weeks will require a follow up appointment and I will respond with a link to book an appointment.

Depending on the goals and plan we have established, 1-2 more in person follow up visits may be needed to determine progress towards your goals.

Please keep in mind that I am a mom, wife, business owner and still am a bedside nurse at two hospitals. I love helping my families and always want to be accessible, but may not answer you right away. I always answer families within 24hrs.

  • I will! All you gotta do is ask! My family & I live in Quincy. Some towns I travel to the most often are: Braintree, Weymouth, Hingham, Hull, Abington, Rockland, Hanover, Norwell, Milton, Canton, Westwood, Dedham, Westwood, Dorchester, ect. If you need support beyond what is listed, just ask and I’d be happy to accommodate your family. If it’s somewhere beyond where I serve or I do not have availability - I’d be happy to refer you to an IBCLC in your area.

  • I am fully vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19. All my supplies and the infant scale is fully sanitized between clients. I arrive in clean clothing and will wear a mask upon request.

I am taking every measure advised by the government and medical professionals to prevent the transmission of viral illnesses, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and virucidal disinfectants before and after every appointment. However, this does not completely eliminate the risk of exposure or spread to yourself or those whom you are contact with.

I understand that Christine Salvucci does not assume any responsibility if symptoms present following an appointment.
