My name is Christine Salvucci and I’m a wife & mom of two energetic toddler boys, a Registered Nurse with over a decade of NICU experience, and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

My mission as your lactation consultant is to provide you and your family an inclusive, judgment-free space where parents can feel calm and confident as we create a feeding plan that works for your family.

Feeding your baby isn’t one-size-fits-all, and breastfeeding doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing—I’m here to support you, no matter your feeding goals.

Today a client asked me what it was like having my babies so close together.

And honestly?

It was beautifully impossible.

RJ and Collin are now 5½ and almost 4, but those early years were some of the hardest of my life.

They love each other, hate each other, are best friends and rivals — sometimes all within the same hour.

It is exhausting. It is overwhelming. It was expensive AF.

There were moments where I felt like I could barely keep my own head above water… never mind two tiny humans who needed everything from me.

It tested our marriage. It tested friendships. It tested every part of who I was.

But somewhere in the middle of that chaos, something unexpected happened.

What started as me trying to survive feeding my own babies turned into helping all of you figure out how you want to feed yours.

Ever feel a sudden wave of sadness, dread, or anxiety right when your milk lets down — and then it fades?

That can be something called D-MER (Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex) — a real, physical hormone response that happens when milk begins to flow while nursing or pumping.

Here’s what’s going on behind the scenes 👇 Oxytocin and prolactin surge to trigger milk release and milk production… and at the same time, dopamine — a key mood-regulating chemical in the brain — briefly dips.

For most parents that dip is subtle. With D-MER, that drop can happen quickly and intensely — leading to feelings like dread, panic, sadness, or overwhelm that last seconds to a couple minutes and then resolve once milk is flowing.

This is not in your head. It doesn’t mean you don’t love breastfeeding. It doesn’t mean you don’t love your baby. It’s physiology — not failure.

As an RN + IBCLC (and mom of two), I want families to know that support exists. Working with a skilled lactation consultant can help you identify patterns, explore coping strategies, and figure out next steps that protect both your feeding journey and your mental health.

So you ✨just✨ had your baby. You’re in that foggy, magical, “holy crap, I did it” moment… and hopefully that sweet baby is on your chest soaking in every bit of you.

Also…Hi! I’m Christine — former NICU RN for over a decade, IBCLC, owner of The Boobie Mama, and mom of two toddler boys. I help families walk into postpartum feeling prepared, supported, and confident instead of overwhelmed.

Here’s what most people don’t tell you about those first couple days:
〰️ At birth, babies are usually WIDE awake — bright-eyed, alert, taking everything in for about an hour. 〰️ Then the next 24 hours? Sleepy, sleepy, sleepy. You’ll try and wake them every 3 hours to feed and they’ll drift right back out. 〰️ But day 2…things usually change.
Baby realizes their warm, cozy womb is gone. The lights, sounds, temperature — everything is new. They may cry more, want to be held constantly, and seem “unsettled.” It’s normal, but it surprises so many parents.

Here’s what actually helps: 1️⃣ Expect it. Knowing this is normal keeps you grounded. Prep your partner too. 2️⃣ Frequent feeds. Your milk smells and tastes like home — huge comfort. 3️⃣ Skin-to-skin. Regulates baby’s nervous system, heart rate, temp & breathing. Partners can do this too! 4️⃣ Swaddle or baby wear. They’ve spent 9 months snug — that contained feeling is familiar. 5️⃣ Movement. Rocking, bouncing, or a yoga ball helps during the “day 2 wake-up.”
Preparing for all of this before your baby arrives — understanding feeding, newborn sleep, and normal patterns — changes everything. You get to settle in, breathe, and enjoy more snuggles instead of feeling blindsided.

✨ On the eve of my baby turning FIVE ✨

Tomorrow my first baby — the boy who made me “Mama” — turns five. And I’m feeling all the feelings.

RJ is the reason my entire world shifted. The reason I became who I am today. My “why” behind The Boobie Mama, behind the late nights with my business, the early mornings catching up, the hard choices, the career pivots, the boundaries, the dreams… all of it.

Becoming his mom cracked me wide open in ways I never expected.
 His birth, my postpartum experience, the PPA + PPD I walked through — it all changed the trajectory of my life. It changed how I show up for families because I remember exactly what it felt like to be in the thick of it, trying to find myself again while loving a tiny human more than I knew was possible.
And somehow, this little boy has taught me more than I could ever teach him… just by being himself.
 His joy, his curiosity, his stubborn little spirit, his belly laughs, his big emotions — they’ve shaped me, stretched me, humbled me, and healed me.

He doesn’t even know it, but he’s the one who taught me how to be a mom. He’s the reason I found my purpose. He’s the heartbeat behind everything I do.

🚨 High Lipase Milk — What’s the deal?! 🚨
Have you ever pulled milk from the freezer, thawed it, and your baby suddenly looks offended 😅? You might be dealing with high lipase — an enzyme in your milk that breaks down fat. The struggle is real! High lipase can make milk smell or taste soapy or metallic after freezing — but it’s not spoiled and it’s absolutely safe for your baby to drink. The goal is taste management, not panic

Your milk isn’t bad — it’s just an acquired taste!
Here’s how to manage it ⬇️

💡 1️⃣ Rotate your stash: Don’t let hundreds of ounces sit for months. Offer frozen milk early on and regularly so your baby stays used to the taste of both fresh and frozen.

💡 2️⃣ Mix with fresh: Try easing your baby into the flavor — start with 75% fresh/25% frozen, then slowly increase the ratio.

💡 3️⃣ Freeze smart: Store milk in 1, 2, 4, and 6oz portions so you can experiment and waste less.

💡 4️⃣ Scalding? Technically yes, heating right after pumping can deactivate lipase — but let’s be real… who has time for that? And most of the time when you realize you have high lipase, you already have a stash and it’s too late for this step. (Please do not scald milk to “prevent” high lipase)

💡 5️⃣ Experiment with temperature. Some babies actually do better when milk is served slightly warmer or cooler — warming can help mellow the smell/taste! Totally safe to try, and sometimes the missing piece that makes all the difference 🍼

High lipase milk = not spoiled, not unsafe, just unique!

🗣️ “𝐏𝐮𝐦𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐮𝐦𝐩” 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞. 🗣️

Most medications, dental procedures, surgeries/procedures and even many urgent care treatments are compatible with breastfeeding. Sadly, families are often told to throw away their pumped milk or stop breastfeeding and just pump and dump “just to be safe” — which can be unnecessary and discouraging.

𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠:
- Save your milk, label it until gathering more information
- Talk to your IBCLC
- Use trusted resources like LactMed or the InfantRisk Center

Your milk is valuable and in most cases is still safe to continue giving to your baby. Don’t let outdated advice cause you extra stress! Of course there are truly necessary times where pumping and dumping is necessary, but please consult an IBCLC before discarding milk!!!!

Sundays have me reflecting lately…

Motherhood has shown me that protecting my peace isn’t selfish—it’s survival. With two boys in school full-time, activities like skating and soccer, and recently saying goodbye to our full-time nanny, my plate is full. Honestly, in my personal life, I’ve felt like I’m hanging on by a thread. With my mamas, I strive to be there for you at 100%.

But last week…. I reached out for help. Because I can’t do it all, and that’s okay. I have to lead by example. Protecting my peace means I can show up fully as a mom, wife, daughter, business owner and friend. And sometimes that means setting boundaries, saying no, and leaning on others.

❌ Flat or short nipples often don’t reach the palate ❌ Wide, bulky bases can encourage chewing vs. suction ❌ Faster flow rates make it harder to go back to breast

✅ What actually supports breastfeeding: → A gradually sloped nipple → One that reaches the palate to trigger suction → The slowest flow available → Promotes a deep latch, not a chompy one
